Samsung Galaxy S8 Updates, Rumors; New Flagship To Use LG Batteries

With the recent troubles of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 that clouded the Korean tech-giant products' credibility, everyone is tuning in to updates concerning the company's upcoming flagship that is rumored to be unveiled in February 2017. Due to the Note 7's infamous battery fiasco, another rumor concerning the Samsung Galaxy S8 has resurfaced and it talks about a plan to use LG manufactured batteries in lieu of the company's own Samsung SDI or possibly every other battery suppliers that were involved with the Note 7 production.

An LG Powered Samsung Galaxy S8 Might Be Coming

In a report from International Business Times, Samsung is said to be sitting down with LG Chem for a negotiation to use its manufactured batteries to power the upcoming Galaxy S8. However, this could be a rather difficult decision for Samsung as it would also mean that the company's own Samsung SDI, which currently manufactures batteries for the smartphones, would be losing a chunk of its business as it supplies 70 percent of the total Samsung devices in the market.

Samsung's Clean Up Process Might Destroy Own Division

This decision is probably due to Samsung SDI's participation in the recent Galaxy Note 7 battery problems that had so far gone beyond the worst expectations. It could also be a matter of Samsung saving face and cleaning up the possibly tainted image of its devices by incorporating another well-known supplier in an effort to build up anticipation for Galaxy S8, safe from the horrors of the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 shadow.

Rivals LG And Samsung's Partnership Is Unlikely

A Samsung executive was reported as saying "We are looking at diverse suppliers, including LG Chem," to a local Korean newspaper as news of development for the Samsung Galaxy S8 continue to unravel. This is a rare opportunity as LG and Samsung have long been in competition with its products, from kitchen appliances to smartphones, even more so now that the new LG V20 is currently marketed as a worthy replacement for the Galaxy Note 7. Samsung Galaxy S8 updates or rumors have always been fascinating and interesting as the flagship's arrival would also determine the company's make-or-break status in the smartphone industry.
