The establishment of the Space Nation Asgardia is to serve Humanity and promote peace in space. Asgardia is now accepting applications for its 150 million targeted citizenship.
But not all qualified Asgardians need to live in the space nation. Just like foreign workers residing outside their respective countries, said Igor Ashurbeyli, the founding father of Asgardia. Last October 12, 2016, Dr. Ashurbeyli announced the acceptance of applicants for this Space Station nation. In less than 40 hours after the announcement, over a hundred thousand applicants had been received.
The name Asgardia came from the home of Norse Gods called Asgard, the mythological city in the skies as in the movie "Thor". Asgardia will be a democratic form of government with the emphasis of people working for the development of space technology and peace for the Space Nation.
Having an Asgardia will be a landing platform for space development and exploration that will enable our scientists and explorers ease and mobility when they are in outer space. Collaboration with countries investing for outer space projects are welcome and be partners of this endeavor.
In the course of research and development of Asgardia, engineers and scientists has to establish a solution to certain major obstacles that need to be addressed. One of them is the massive chemical propulsion that will be required to move gigantic matter in space and align them in the construction phase. Nuclear propulsion will be needed to move and assemble the Future Space Nation Station, said Mark Uhran, a former assistant associate administrator for the International Space Station at NASA headquarters.
Scientists and engineers said that for the Asgardia Space Nation, to sustain itself, it needs a close loop life support system for materials to be recycled in the colony. Other concerns that researchers and scientists are looking into are Radiation, Safety, Security, and Isolation.
Defense systems from asteroid strikes are also being researched. A detected asteroid strike could be countered by sending space crafts to intercept it. These spaceships will bomb the asteroid and pushing it out of trajectory, by jet propulsion, years before it strikes the space nation .
