Publisher Deep Silver had previously revealed the first official details for its upcoming horror title "Dead Island: Riptide." At the time, the publisher stated that "Dead Island: Riptide" is a spin-off and not a sequel to the first "Dead Island" game.
Now, per reports, the company has revealed pending information about the mysterious fifth playable character in the game, featured in the game's official page.
The new fifth character in "Dead Island: Riptide" is known as John Morgan, a failed U.S. Navy member who worked as a cook on board a military vessel. As told to VG247 by the publisher, the company states that Morgan's "career in the US Navy has not taken off as he originally had envisioned, so he spends his time as a cook on a military ship. Little does he know that soon he will have to bring his skills into practice when the ship nears the island of Palanai."
Deep Silver added that John Morgan "is the new, fifth playable character in Dead Island Riptide that can join the team in addition to the protagonists from the original game. For years he has trained himself - and become a master - in hand-to-hand combat."
Palanai, the main city hub of "Dead Island: Riptide," also plays home to Henderson. While it was once a hotbed of wealthy travelers, it has now turned into an undead warzone that the monsoons have ravaged.
This information surrounding the game is major news, especially after the company revealed most of its details (barring the information about the fifth character) in September this year.
"Dead Island: Riptide" takes players to the island of Palanai on the Banoi archipelago. The place is infested with Zombies and only a few remaining Survivors are fighting for their lives. The game is set to introduce new horrifying enemies, deadly weapons with enhanced expertise, a new playable character, new vehicles, fresh levels and weather conditions , evolved multiplayer, and hub defense game mechanics.
It was earlier revealed that players would now be able to import their characters from the first "Dead Island" and the game, this time, will focus on weapons instead of melee, making this edition more action-oriented than the original version.
The in-game characters that were previously revealed included Xian (an employee at the Royal Palm Resort), Sam B (a rap star of fading fame), Logan (a former American football star), Purna (a former officer of the Sydney Police department), while the still-to-be unveiled fifth character (now disclosed to be Morgan) was kept confidential till further notice.
"Dead Island: Riptide" is currently slated for release on April 23, 2013 in North America and April 26 in Europe.
