iOS 6.0.1 Jailbreak With Sn0wbreeze 2.9.7 For iPhone, iPod Touch Revealed (Pre-A5)

A brand new jailbreak for iPhone and iPod touch is here. Per reports, Sn0wbreeze has finally been updated to build 2.9.7 and the new update brings support for iOS 6 and iOS 6.0.1 on Pre-A5 powered devices such as the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and the fourth generation iPod touch.

Interested users and fans can follow the steps below for performing a tethered jailbreak on iOS 6.0.1 using the accepted restore-based Sn0wbreeze jailbreak tool for Windows. However, before continuing, it is important to remember that a tethered jailbreak means that the device will need to be connected to the computer and booted into a jailbreak state every time it is hard booted or even powered down.

It is also important to remember that the new jailbreak is compatible with pre-A5 powered iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPod touch 4G only and will not work on any of the newer devices. The jailbreak is also limited to tethered-boot for now.

Here are the steps to perform a tethered jailbreak on iOS 6.0.1 with Sn0wbreeze 2.9.7:

Step 1 – The user will need to download the latest version of Sn0wbreeze (check below for download links) for Windows and save the file in a familiar location.

Step 2 – Download iOS 6.0.1 on the device that is to be jailbroken.

Step 3 – Next, the iDevice will need to be the connected to the computer via the USB cable.

Step 4 – Run Sn0wbreeze on the Windows PC. For Windows 8 users, they will need to first download and install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5. See here for details.

Step 5 – Now click the next blue arrow button to proceed. In the next window, select Browse for an IPSW to point Sn0wbreeze at the applicable firmware file for the device. Users will need to make sure that the Sn0wbreeze program doesn’t show errors and is able to detect and verify the device.

Step 6 – Users now will need to select the Simple Mode option from the available list of modes and continue by clicking the next button, which needs to be done to build a custom firmware. Once that is done, Sn0wbreeze will work to create a custom built firmware file. Later, the firmware file will be placed on the Desktop.

Step 7 – This is the step where the custom firmware will be restored to the device via the well-known iTunes method. However, before doing that, users will need to put the connected iOS device into Pwned DFU mode by using iREB option. The iREB option can be found on the top of Sn0wbreeze’s File Menu status bar.

Step 8 – As soon as the device is in Pwned DFU, close Sn0wbreeze and start iTunes. The device can be selected from the left hand menu. Next, press and hold SHIFT key and click the Restore button in iTunes. What this will do is it will prompt iTunes to let the user select the desired IPSW file. Here, select the custom built firmware file from the Desktop and let iTunes restore it to the device.

Step 9 – Sn0wbreeze, as a part of the process, will also create an additional folder on the desktop called iBooty. iBooty is required to boot the device into a tethered jailbreak mode to run apps and tweaks from Cydia.

Step 10 – Now start iBooty and select the device to boot into tethered mode and hit the Start button. Follow the onscreen instructions on iBooty to enter Pwned DFU mode on the device. Once in the DFU mode, iBooty will automatically boot the device into tethered jailbreak mode.

According to a Redmond Pie report, the user should remember that “after the device has been booted using iBooty, running Cydia for the first time could take a little bit of time as it sets up its file system and permissions as well as loading all the required information from the stock repositories.”
