Halo 4 Boasts $220 Million On First Day

“Halo 4” is easily one of the best looking games of the year and has seen massive fan support since it was first detailed and now, it has numbers to back up its popularity. Per reports, “Halo 4” has generated $220 million for Microsoft in the first 24 hours of being on sale, and is also on track to sell more copies and generate $300 million by the end of this week.

Microsoft released the sales figures while comparing the game to movies such as “The Avengers” and “Harry Potter” that did well in the U.S. What’s more impressive is that it’s the biggest “Halo” to date which is based on the number of people playing the game, and makes it one of the successful entertainment releases of the year.

"We're thrilled that ‘Halo 4' has emerged as the biggest U.S. entertainment launch of the year," said Phil Spencer, corporate vice president of Microsoft Studios. “Thanks to the millions of fans worldwide who helped make this another record-breaking launch for the ‘Halo’ franchise, ‘Halo 4’ is kicking off a strong holiday season and has become the must-have blockbuster experience of the year.”

The previous installment "Halo: Reach," the fourth game in the series, arrived in Sept. 2010 and collected $200 million in global sales on its launch day. However, according to Microsoft, the “Halo” franchise has generated over $3.38 billion in revenue since its initial launch in 2001.

“Consumer demand and excitement for ‘Halo 4’ is even greater than we anticipated,” said Tony Bartel, GameStop president. “Day-one sales of ‘Halo 4’ make it the biggest ‘Halo’ launch in GameStop history and the biggest game launch on any platform so far this year in our stores.”

“Industry watchers say 'Halo 4' sales figures will shed light on whether the game can revive flagging sales for the videogame sector, and beat 'Call of Duty: Black Ops 2', which goes on sale on Tuesday and compete for the title of 2012's top-selling game,” a Reuters report stated.“The first-person shooter series, published by rival Activision Blizzard Inc is now the biggest-selling title on the Xbox.”
