HIMYM Inspiration: 9/11 Attacks

"How I Met Your Mother" was ended in 2014 after nine years, and many fans are still asking if creators will be able to come up with season 10 in the future. Bays and Thomas have been mum about the possibility, but in a panel during the New York Television Festival on Monday, Oct. 24, the duo made remarks about their nostalgia for the show after dishing about the 9/11 attacks as the inspiration why they came up with such a distinct sitcom.

Bays: "Write Something Bigger"

In their interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bays looked back that when the tragedy shook the world from New York City in 2001, he decided to move to Los Angeles to introduce the sitcom. For the first season, Bays recounted that he needed "to write something bigger and with emotion" which primarily he ended up with the ironies of life. He said he learned that "life really is about chapters closing and things coming to an end, and things pivoting on an axis that will never pivot back."

Jason Segel In For Season 10

Amid all these indefinite statements, "How I Met Your Mother" fans who want the show to continue with season 10 cannot rest assured for now. However, HIMYM alum Jason Segel recently expressed his desire for a reunion series. According to a report, the reunion might be in the works given Segel's statement that he was leaving the storyline to the writers. Even so, fans should take this report with a pinch of salt.

"How I Met Your Mother" also starred Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders, Josh Radnor and Alyson Hannigan.
