Uriah Faber is going to retire after his next fight in the UFC and he will cap off one of the most storied MMA careers in its young history. But the question in everyone's mind is, how much does he regret not winning a UFC championship?
Uriah Faber has a very good and financially stable MMA career. He helped the lower weight classes gain prominence with his style and charisma, had a lot of championship caliber matches, and is now the owner of his own gym. Add the fact that the team he trains, Team Alpha Male, has been doing fairly well in the UFC. And do not forget the fact that he was the WEC champion for some time.
But despite all of this accomplishment, Faber shockingly has never held a UFC belt. It is not for lack of trying as he tried his best to win a championship, even shifting weight classes just to get that shot. He fought archrival Dominick Cruz twice for the Bantamweight strap and Renan Barao twice for a lightweight championship and lost all of those fights.
In an interview with the MMA hour, Faber was asked about the subject of not winning a UFC championship, he responded by saying:
"At that time it was (Jose) Aldo and (Anthony) Pettis and on and on, and Demetrious (Johnson) and all these guys, Benson Henderson, these guys were all part of that (WEC) group. Cowboy (Cerrone) and the list goes on. I'm not fooled about it. I've had 14 years in this sport and my entire career has been at the top. I've had title shots. I've held the title for years and years. I don't worry about what somebody calls something. I know what it was. And I think, for me, I just am a very thankful guy. I really am."
It seems like Uriah is already at peace with the championship that was never meant to be. Hopefully, he will be as successful in his life outside the octagon as much as he was when he was fighting in it.
