Open Qualifiers Playoffs for Dota 2's The Boston Major Tournament finally started. Both amateur and professional teams from different regions have signed up to this event for a chance to participate in Valve's another Major tournament this December. With a total prize pool of $3 million, The Boston Major triggered a bloodbath between hundreds of teams in different regions; and even caused imbalance classification.
NA Region Open Qualifiers Invaded By EU Teams
Two sets of open qualifier playoffs in every region will be organized by FACEiT (SEA, Europe, Americas) and Perfect World (China). Both two finalists from each region will then proceed to the Regional Group Stage. Interestingly, the first finalist in NA region happened to be a team from Europe - the Prodota Gaming.
For the second spot, nine out of the top 16 teams who qualified for the next round are also from EU. A post on Dota 2 subreddit brought a discussion between Dota fans, questioning the rules set by Valve for this event. Both Valve and FACEiT reportedly allowed these actions. On a statement released by Prodota Gaming to DotaBlast, it said:
"There's a clear imbalance between the Europe and CIS region and the Americas one. We have too many teams in one region and not enough to fill the other. Yet, they get the same number of spots every time." Adding that they've decided to take their chances in the Americas Open Qualifiers, stressing that it's not specified in the rules that changing regions is allowed. The decision is spurred by their belief that there should be equal chances for everyone and the flawed system needs to change.
SEA Team Bravely Signed Up For Chinese Qualifier
Meanwhile, in SEA region, White Fries Gaming has the balls to get their Boston ticket through China. They, however, lost their chance against 'Newbee.Young' after a series of battles against other Chinese teams. Chinese region is presently considered to have the best Dota 2 teams, and SEA being the underdog. The Boston Major Main Event happens on October 3-7.
