Final Fantasy XV Update: Moogles Are More Than Just Cute

In the midst of the raging Moogle petition on Twitter, Square Enix finally unveils a new teaser for the upcoming game. The teaser presents the comeback of the famous plush non-playable character (NPC), none other than the Moogle itself.

Final Fantasy XV introduces the Moogle back in the game series due to popular demand. First appearing in Final Fantasy III, the Moogle is known by avid fans of the series as the trademark NPC which serves as both a quest giver and a merchant.

In Final Fantasy XV's case, the Moogle was completely overhauled into an expendable ragdoll. This new Moogle acts as Noctis and friends' decoy against enemies. Once deployed by the player, enemies will swarm and maul the poor Moogle ragdoll until it disappears, according to Polygon.

The ragdoll can be used as a strategy for players in battle. An example is shown from Square Enix's new gameplay footage exhibits the Moogle doll as an ideal bait to clump enemies in order to simultaneously destroying them all using one of Noctis' area spells, effectively saving time and health point (HP) levels of all party members.

The Moogle ragdoll can be a convenient tactic in difficult battle situations in-game. However, not all enemies are fooled by the ragdoll trick. As also shown in the aforementioned gameplay footage is Noctis and his friends fighting a gigantic Behemoth, a recurring four-legged monster enemy in the Final Fantasy series. Despite the player's attempt to distract the Behemoth using the Moogle ragdoll, the enemy gave zero attention to the trick as it continued to brutally haul and tackle Noctis' teammates while the neglected ragdoll lies in the distance.

Although proven to be a useful feature in-game, Moogle fans are not pleased with what Square Enix have done with their beloved mascot. The top Youtube comment from user BlackDoge says: "Moogle lives matter too..." and another from Youtube user Zidane Mina says: "Moogle Abuse at its finest!!! IM SO TRIGGERED," along with a '#MoogleLivesMatter tag.

Final Fantasy XV, despite its drawbacks, is surely a game worth waiting for. The game will be available on PS4 and Xbox One consoles on Nov. 29, 2016.
