Set to create a new gaming ecosystem, Ouya has finished shipping 1,200 developer units and also released a UI and Unboxing Video.
The Android-based game consoles have been shipped to 1,200 developers across the globe and the consoles are expected to reach the eager game lovers in a few days time. "We just licked the stamps and waved a fond farewell to 1,200 OUYA Developer Consoles. These are the early versions of OUYA that developers will use to start making games. They're on their way to developers around the globe," Ouya said.
The 7.5 centimeter device is of the size of a Rubik's Cube and has been developed by Yves Béhar, who had also designed the One Laptop per Child computers and the Jawbone Bluetooth headset. The Ouya Dev Console package includes a frosted translucent OUYA Dev Console and two frosted translucent OUYA Dev Controllers (with batteries), a micro-USB port, a HDMI cable, a power adapter, an internal fan to cool the cube and an official welcome letter.
The kit does not include any actual games as it is strictly aimed at developers who want to gear up some games. In addition, the company also provides a Developer Portal site from where game designers can easily download the development kit, pick up documentation and upload their games. Ouya has warned that as the consoles are still in the process of being developed, designers may experience many bugs and requests them to leave their feedbacks at its forums at devs.ouya.tv.
Ouya completed its one-month Kickstarter campaign with $8.5 million against its original goal of $950,000. The Android-based video game console is expected to cause a serious disruption to the $78 billion video game industry as it gears for developers to create games with its console kit. The console is slated to go on sale to the general public in March.
