Overwatch 'Appear Offline' Function Confirmed, When Is It Coming?

To those asking for an Overwatch "appear offline" function, there is good news. Game director Jeff Kaplan has announced that they are still working on the said feature, but it is unknown for now when it will go live.

Overwatch 'Appear Offline' Function In The Works

Kaplan has not indicated a target launch for the Overwatch "appear offline" feature, but assured fans that they are still figuring out how to make it happen. This is one of the most requested missing function in the game and in Battle.net, as many players have quipped that this is already available on Steam for a long time already.

"We are in the process of coordinating this with Battle.net and the other game teams," he announced on the forums regarding the Overwatch "appear offline" mode. "Because our social system is a cross-game system (WoW, Hearthstone, Heroes, SC2, D3) adding this functionality is not trivial for us."

In the meantime, he urged players to turn off invites via the Social Options menu. This is for those who are complaining about getting a lot of invites.

Overwatch 'Appear Offline' Coming Soon?

Talks of the Overwatch "appear offline" feature has been happening since the game was released. However, it is not only absent in the game, but in the whole Battle.net as well. It was announced first in 2012, but still, it has not come to fruition.

Two years after in 2014, Wow Community Manager Lore replied to a tweet asking for an update regarding the "appear offline" feature. Lore admitted that it is "being put on the back burner for now" due to major technical hurdles.

Now, fans are given new hope that the function is coming soon. Although it may still be far off, at least they are assured that the devs are taking this seriously and want the community to experience the Overwatch "appear offline" feature as soon as possible.
