Nintendo Switch Features, Price And Rumored Release Date

Since the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch, people especially video game fanatics have been clamouring for more details about the much anticipated gaming console.

The Switch was then codenamed Nintendo NX when news and rumors started trickling in about the company's plan to produce and release a new console in time for the holidays. All questions were answered last month when Nintendo released a three-minute trailer introducing the world to the Switch and its impressive features.

After revealing the major features of the gaming console, one important question in the minds of many was left begging to be answered, "When can I get my hands on one of those?"

The answer then was sometime March next year.

Today, a tweet by Laura Kate Dale, a video game enthusiast, caused a hailstorm of emotions in many other gaming enthusiasts like her. Tech Radar got wind of the tweet and posted it on their website.

The tweet, which was posted on Nov. 3 at 6:46 a.m. read, "Being told March 17th is currently planned Switch launch day in PAL, will release worldwide that same week but not same date all regions."

As the tweet mentioned, the release will happen in PAL territories only. Those in North America, Australia and Japan will probably wait a little more to get their hands on the Switch. That is, if the rumor proves true.

Dale's pronouncement is actually backed by history. Nintendo traditionally releases new products in PAL territories on a Friday. The Nintendo Wii, Wii U and Gamecube were made available on a Friday. March 17 falls on a Friday.

In the United States, Nintendo consoles are released on Sundays. Tech Radar, using the data mentioned, predicts that the Switch will drop on US shores on March 5 or 12.

As for the price, nothing has been set in stone yet. However, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima had this to say, "Regarding the price, as we have been saying, we are, in principle, not planning to sell it a a loss. We would like a wide variety of consumers to enjoy Nintendo products, and we would also like to think in terms of consumers' expectations for our products."
