Apple started to sell refurbished iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus on its online store.
Apple's Refurbished Products
According to Business Insider, Apple's online refurbished store allows budget conscious customers to buy like-new Apple products at a significant discount. When a product is returned to Apple, the company's technicians fix the problem, replace the battery, then assemble the components into a new casing. The refurbished product is sold at a discount price.
Refurbishing returned devices helps boost Apple's bottom line and prevent waste. The company doesn't have to support the cost of returns. For instance, when Apple replaces your broken iPhone at the Apple Store, it's usually offering you a refurbished replacement. But you shouldn't worry too much because, in most circumstances, these refurbished products are just like new, excepting the fact that they come in a plain white box with an Apple logo.
Refurbished iPhones
According to 9To5Mac, Apple has never sold refurbished iPhones directly on its online store, up until now. For customers shopping on a budget and looking for cheap deals, on Apple's online store it was possible before to get a refurbished iPad, Mac or even a niche device like an AirPort Extreme, but never an iPhone. Typically, the high-tech company used its refurbished iPhone inventory as replacements or offloaded them to third party resellers. However, that has seemingly changed today, as for the first time ever Apple is offering refurbished iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in its online store.
When Apple sold refurbished iPhones before, the company relegated those sales to an eBay store front. However, now customers will find on Apple's online store the refurbished iPhone 6s with 16 GB of storage for a price tag of $449. The refurbished iPhone 6s Plus is offered in two storage options. The 16 GB storage model has a price of $529, while the 64 GB iPhone 6s Plus is listed at $589. All color options are currently available, including Rose Gold, Gold, Space Gray and Silver.
Customers shopping on a budget can expect to save up to $110 or 15 percent, by purchasing refurbished iPhones. Apple offers a full one-year factory warranty on these devices. If you consider the peace of mind of buying from Apple and the added benefit of one year warranty, the prices compare favorably to Apple's third party retail partners.
