Last Saturday night, history was made in the world of Ultimate Fighting Champion (UFC) as Irish man Conor McGregor knocked out Eddie Alvarez during a match, becoming the first mixed martial artist who was able to hold two UFC belts simultaneously.
Conor McGregor Makes History Last Saturday, Knocking Down Opponent Eddie Alvarez
McGregor initially predicted with all confidence that he would knock Alvarez down in the first round, but was not successful with that. However, he did so during the second round as after how McGregor nearly broke his jaw, Alvarez continued to fight but the hint of desperation was already there as the later knew he was already losing. Thus, this made McGregor's debut on UFC lightweight easy for the opponent. Alvarez tried to fight as much as he could, but could not work through the offenses made by McGregor the entire time.
Alvarez previously won the title that he fought with McGregor for back in July, against Rafael dos Anjos which whom he also knocked down. Now, being determined not to lose the title, he ended up doing so to a much younger Irish UFC fighter Conor McGregor, causing the Philadelphian Eddie Alvarez to lose his title. Losing at round two was even more degrading for him, but was obviously not what McGregor planned as he intended to win at first round already.
McGregor To Take Sabbatical From UFC; Says A Baby Is On The Way In His Life And Yet To Decide On His Career Thereafter
However, despite the historic win, McGregor stated that he might be taking a sabbatical in 2017 as he and his girlfriend are now expecting a child, due to be born next year. He shared this information during the conference after the historical fight that occurred in UFC. According to him, he hasn't yet made any plans for what happens after the baby comes since he does not want his future family to be involved in his world, with all the brutal fighting and media all around without having any privacy. Thus, he is taking some time and is set to decide on his future soon, after the baby is born.
