iOS 6.1.1 Jailbreak Already Out

Apple released iOS 6.1.1 Tuesday and the Evad3rs team, which cracked iOS 6.1, almost immediately re-released its updated universal untethered jailbreak tool.

Redsn0w, another hacking team, also released its jailbreak for iOS 6.1.1, though it is a tethered version, which means that it must be re-jailbroken every time your device is rebooted.

Jailbreaking allows users to modify and customize their devices in ways that Apple restricts, and gives them access to the Cydia store.

Apple did not patch the exploits used as feared, which is good news for users who wish to jailbreak their phones, but neither does it fix the battery-draining bug that occurs when iOS 6.1 users try to connect to Microsoft Exchange. The latter bug has been temporarily solved at some corporations by blocking iOS 6.1 devices altogether.

For iPhone 4S users who were having issues with 4G connectivity in the UK, Vodafone, which issued a warning to its customers to stick with iOS 5.x until 6.1 had been debugged, gave the go-ahead to update. Other improvements seem to be a major map application overhaul for users in Japan.

It has only been a week since 6.1 was released, but it looks like Apple developers have not had time to code and test a fix for the exploit, and rushed the release so 4S users won't be left hanging.

The Evasi0n tool is available for Mac, Windows, and Linux.

A week after the 1.1 release of its crack, the Evasi0n tool became the most popular jailbreak tool ever, with over 7 million people accessing Cydia with a device running 6.1. Apple updates usually target the holes exploited by jailbreakers, but the Evad3rs have said that they have plenty of research up their sleeves and are prepared to tackle the next update for when Apple rolls it out.

If you've already jailbroken your phone, you'll receive the evasi0n update through Cydia, as usual. For iOS users who plan to update to iOS 6.1.1, the Evad3rs team recommends that you fully reboot and restore the device before doing so. The Evasi0n tool will update through Cydia automatically for everyone else.

RedmondPie has detailed instructions for jailbreaking with either Redsn0w or Evasi0n.
