The "Divergent" trilogy's final installment is known to have been canceled by Lionsgate and will be turned into a TV spin-off series instead. This seems to have not settled well with the cast and director as they lost their excitement for the franchise.
Movie director Neil Burger said in an interview, "I don't think they feel like they should've split [the third book] into two [movies]. If they hadn't, they would've been in much better shape, but at the time I'm sure they were excited and they saw some potential there."
He further said, "It's just too bad because I love all those actors, and they were very loyal to it. They're still really trying to figure out what they're going to do with it."
Meanwhile, actress Shailene Woodley, who played the main character in the movie, expressed her disappointment for "The Divergent Series: Ascendant." She said that she is not interested in doing a television show and that she did not really sign up for it. A report also mentioned that she did not appreciate finding of the news through media instead of hearing it directly from the movie makers.
Her co-star and lead actor Theo James is not joining the series because he has some important matter to attend to. He is planning his wedding with fiancée Ruth Kearney and the couple seems really excited about it.
It has been rumored before that the two were allegedly involved in a romantic relationship during the filming of the movie. Both Shailene Woodley and Theo James did not address the rumors but it was mentioned that she was pretty disturbed by it.
Ruth Kearney, on the other hand, is said to have been very happy that the actress and her fiancée won't be reprising their roles in "The Divergent Series: Ascendant" because it means that the two won't be working together again.
