December is just around the corner and it only means one thing for all Destiny players-Sparrow Racing League 2016 is coming to Rise of Iron. Guardians, prepare your speed skills as you are about to experience Bungie's biggest year-end event. No exact details here have been announced by Bungie itself, but based on last year's event and teasers from the developers, here's what you can expect for this year's Sparrow Racing League (SRL) event.
Sparrow Racing League - Event Dates
In an exclusive interview with Kotaku last October, Destiny game director Christopher Barrett already expressed that SRL "is still there." Last year, Destiny: The Taken King began its Sparrow Racing League on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015. For this year, it can be expected that the racing event will kick off on Monday, Dec. 5. Since SRL spans for three weeks, the event should end by Monday, Dec. 26.
Sparrow Racing League - Race Tracks
As for the mechanics, SRL should remain a free-for-all death race of six players set in the enemy territory. Last year, Bungie brought Guardians to off-the-beaten tracks on Mars and Venus. The race course on Mars, specifically at Campus Martius in Meridian Bay was the easy one. The one on Venus, particularly at Infinite Descent in Maat Mons was the advanced track. The Venus race course was quite remarkable for its constant downhill track which makes the race even harder. However, it remains a mystery whether or not the developer will carry players to a whole new world or perhaps add a new track for Guardians to explore.
Sparrow Racing League - Mechanics
Of course, the event would not begin without the quartermaster Amanda Holliday herself who will give you the quest as you visit her at the Tower. On the other hand, it is exciting to note what Eververse Trading could bring some spice for the event this year. There's no information for now as to which ornaments players can add to their sparrow to make it more massive and efficient. Just like the recent Festival of the Lost event, Bungie could have something up its sleeve as a surprise.
Forbes hinted that SRL might come with "new bikes, and new reasons to buy treasure boxes." Yet, there's an odd chance that players will get new sparrows for the race. Last year, various suits were available with different paint jobs to match the sparrows. In the meantime, Bungie is mum about which sparrow model could be used and which variations will be available for the event. More importantly, there will still be a generous loot system where the event would throw a ton of stuff at Guardians.
Sparrow Racing League - Regular Event
Barrett had expressed already that SRL in the near future could no longer be just an annual event, but could come like a regular event just like the Iron Banner. He stressed out however, "We'd want to make sure we bring it back with purpose."
