Sombra is the latest hero to join Overwatch but some players believed that she is broken. If this report is true, how can Blizzard fix her now that she is already live in the Overwatch game matches?
Sombra And Her Present Abilities
Currently, Sombra can hack other heroes' abilities and healing station. She has a camo suit that can make her invisible for a few seconds and a teleporter that can make her appear in any place where the Translocator is placed. Her ultimate is an EMP shockwave that can disable all special abilities of enemy heroes caught within the limited range. Her primary weapon is a semi-automatic weapon that seems to do a decent damage. She can also see critically wounded enemies through walls.
Major Issues With Sombra?
One Overwatch commentator said that Sombra does not do much damage for an offensive hero unlike McCree and Genji. Interestingly, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan reportedly said that Sombra is not actually an offensive but takes more of an offensive-support role. This comment was interpreted by some that Sombra is actually a support hero with some offensive capabilities.
Another factor is Sombra's wide area of control or denial in terms of hacking health packs. It is interesting to note that once Sombra hacks a health pack, it's irreversible. This means that another Sombra cannot deactivate the hacked health stations. Enemy teams will have to wait for one minute before it can be used again. However, this seems to emphasize that Sombra is actually doing support for the team rather than leading the attacks as an offensive hero.
Contention With Offensive Hero Designation
A number of Overwatch heroes believed that Sombra's current gameplay does not justify designating her as an offensive hero. Blizzard should either demote her as a Support hero or give her enough DPS capabilities that will allow her to stay as an offensive hero. Currently, Sombra is already live in the game after a short stint in the Overwatch Public Test Realm (PTR).
