HTC One Clone Revealed Before HTC One Is Announced

Even before HTC revealed the new HTC One (M7) smartphone to the public, some stiff competition arose from an unexpected source: itself.

The Chinese company GooPhone cemented its position as the world's leading smartphone troll on Monday, Feb. 18 when it revealed the clone of HTC's high-profile device, based on leaked renderings and specifications. Leaked images of the HTC phone weren't even published online until last week, so this attempt has to set some kind of ridiculous speed record.

It's not clear whether or not the aptly-titled "GooPhone One" is already available in China, but this isn't the first time GooPhone has preempted a major tech announcement; in fact it's just the latest in a line of impressively accurate knock-offs the company has produced.

Before the iPhone 5 was officially unveiled last year, GooPhone not only announced it had already cloned the highly-anticipated smartphone, it also threatened to sue Apple over the product's design patents in China. Talk about chutzpah.

Official specs for the GooPhone One haven't been released yet, but Android Authority reports that it'll come packed with a quad-core Mediatek MT6589 processor, 1 GB of RAM and a camera outfitted with a 13-megapixel sensor. It'll boast the same 4.7-inch screen as the HTC One, although it's unlikely the GooPhone will offer HD resolution. Android Jelly Bean rounds out the package, although that, too, will not feature the same Sense 5 skin HTC's phone has.

For comparison's sake, here are the HTC One's specs:

- 4.7-inch optically laminated 1080p display (468ppi)
- 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon S4 Pro processor
- 32GB/64GB storage
- 2GB memory
- 13-megapixel camera composed of three stacked 4.3 Ultrapixels sensors
- 2-megapixels front camera with 1080p video capture
- Front-facing stereo speakers with Beats amplifier
- 2,300 mAh battery
- Android 4.1.2 with HTC Sense 5 OS

No hands-on videos of the GooPhone One are out just yet, but if you want to see how the company's last rip-off turned out, check out the i5 video below, courtesy of GizChina.
