Google Glass Seeks Style Advice From Warby Parker

Google announced its Google Glass about a year ago and current speculation focuses on what the frames will look like. New reports indicate that Google is seeking the help of Warby Parker for design advice.

The current Google Glass prototypes are designed as frames only, with no lenses and it's reported that Google will possibly offer sunglass or prescriptive lenses. A miniature screen is imbedded into the frame that appears larger to the viewer than it does on the frame itself. The glasses are interactive, responding when the user speaks or touches the frame. We know that it can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi, take photos, videos and make phone calls, but what exactly will the final product of Glass look like?

As reported by the New York Times Wednesday, Feb. 20, Warby Parker, a New York start-up company that specializes in stylish eyewear, is now in talks with Google. If Glass is going to be embraced by the masses, Google must design a product that people will want to wear. Warby's e-commerce business sells trendy eyewear and may be able to help Google meet this objective. Many will most likely want to make a statement and express themselves, so various design options must cater to individual tastes in style.

Technology and the fashion world are intertwining as mobile devices are viewed as fashion accessories, making product design important. As technology rapidly develops, it's evident that tech meets fashion in the introduction of smart watches. Google is now in the same league with companies such as Apple, Nike, Pebble and Meta Watch, which sought to make functionality and fashion merge with the introduction of smart watches. Apple is said to be working with top designers to create a curved glass design that with be both comfortable to wear and stylish. Google and Warby have not confirmed or denied whether negotiations are occurring between the two.

Google began accepting applications to select a small group of individuals who may purchase an early version of Google Glass. Insiders also report that Google intends to offer Google Glass to a the general public sometime this year.
