There are six generations of Pokémon behind Pokémon Sun and Moon. However, any monster from any generation is not compatible with the latest title, so it cannot be transferred yet. Players will not be able to trade with the games X and Y as well as Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, but there is an app for that called the Pokémon Bank.
How Does The Pokémon Bank Work?
True to its name, the app works like a bank on the internet where you can upload up to 3,000 Pokémon from different titles. Once stored, you can access it anytime and from the games that support it. Currently, Pokémon Sun and Moon do not have support for it yet, but it is confirmed to be coming soon.
The Pokémon Bank can be downloaded into the 3DS. It can be accessed in the in-game Pokémon PC. The screen will be split. The bottom is where you can view and search PC boxes, while the Bank is on the top screen.
So far, this can be used on X and Y as well as Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. This means that Pokémon from such titles can be transferred to another. Soon, Pokémon Sun and Moon will be supported, which means we will be able to get monsters from the aforementioned titles. However, we will not be able to transfer from the latest titles to the older games.
When Is Pokémon Bank Coming To Sun And Moon?
The Pokémon Bank will be supported by Pokémon Sun and Moon starting in January 2017. Those who were hoping to have some of their old pals get to the latest titles will have to wait until then. This way, players cannot transfer their overpowered Pokémon from previous games right away.
"With this update, the Pokémon that adventured with you in Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon X, and Pokémon Y will be able to join you in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon!" the official website reads.
It should be noted that items cannot be transferred via the Pokémon Bank. Only creatures can be uploaded and then downloaded from your internet storage boxes. The app costs $4.99 yearly and will come bundled with the Poke Transporter, which is used to transfer creatures from older titles to the Bank.
How Does Poke Transporter Work?
This app works with Pokémon Black and White, Black 2 and White 2, and Red, Blue and Yellow. To move the creatures from these titles, first move them into PC storage boxes. Open up the app and relocate them to the Poke Transporter boxes.
Then, open up the Pokémon Bank to transfer those into the app. They will then be uploaded to your own internet storage so they can be accessed anytime. Obviously, you would need an internet connection to do this.
Take note also that you would have to resubscribe to the service every year. If a year has passed and you still have some Pokémon in the bank, Nintendo will allot a short period so you can have a chance to withdraw them. If you fail to do so, then it's permanent goodbye to your pals.
The Pokemon Bank definitely gives a chance to transfer some of the best, the strongest and rarest Pokemon (like Shinies) from older titles you have played before Pokemon Sun and Moon. Will you subscribe to it once it becomes available?
