A day away from the start of the Mobile World Congress, specs for a mid-range Sony phone — almost definitely the Xperia SP — leaked onto the Internet. Codenamed "HuaShan" in development, the C530x will be 4.6 inches long with a 720p display. Inside, it features a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, 1.7 GHz dual-core processor and Adreno 320 graphics chip.
It will have both an 8-megapixel camera and 8GB of internal storage, an aluminum frame and plastic back. It will be less than a centimeter in thickness and rumors have circulated that it may have a transparent notification bar like the Xperia S, but a leaked photo gave no indication of this. There is no confirmation on the OS it will run, but many are hoping for Jelly Bean, says XperiaBlog. The SP will have a smaller screen than the Xperia ZL, which weighs in at 5 inches, but will be slightly heavier.
The Japanese site Blog of Mobile reports Sony will release the SP in three different variations: the C5302, C5303 and C5306, depending on region, and will officially announce it at the MWC later this week. Although it's not the highest-end phone, the SP is a solid phone with decent specs, which might not make any waves in the market, but it's generally fairly popular.
In addition to the SP, Sony has a low-range smartphone in the works — the Xperia L (C2104 and c2105) will use Qualcomm's dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus processor, 1GB of RAM and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The L will have either a 3.5-inch or 4-inch display with 480 x 850 resolution.
Other phones in Sony's lineup include the Xperia Z, a waterproof smartphone it revealed at CES 2013. The Z is the first phone to support 1080p resolution, and is another phone with a large 5-inch screen. It sports a 13-megapixel camera and a Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor.
