‘Peppa Pig’ Canceled? Entertainment One’s Falling Profits Could Spell The End For Peppa, George And The Gang

"Peppa Pig" has been through several controversies this year. Previously, the animated series was rumored to be on the chopping block because it allegedly caused autism. Although these reports are found not to be true and the study which was purportedly conducted by Harvard University is bogus, the cartoon might be in danger again. The company that owns "Peppa Pig," Entertainment One, suffered from a 40 percent decrease in profit compared to the same period last year.

Entertainment One's Declining Profits

The latest financial reports from Entertainment One reveal that the company is suffering a decline in profits despite the 19 percent increase in their total revenues. With the staggering amount of decrease in profits, investors are demanding that the company do something to increase the value of their shares. Notably, Entertainment One decided to dump ITV's takeover proposal over the summer and the company is confident that they will recover.

Based on the statement of the management, the decrease in profits is due to the loss in the film division. However, they forecast stronger financials during the second quarter after the release of their cinematic investments. Entertainment One is the company behind the production of "The BFG" and "The Girl on the Train." They plan to recover through more cinema and home entertainment releases.

"Peppa Pig" Up For Cancelation?

"Peppa Pig" and its fate is one of the main concerns of many fans of the adorable cartoon character. While Entertainment One may be on shaky ground, "Peppa Pig" will be the last show that they will cancel. The brand is one of the main reasons for the increase in revenue in the family division. The contribution of this cartoon franchise is too significant and canceling the cartoon will hurt their financials more.

"Peppa Pig" has been making waves around the world which spells more profit for its owner. Peppa contributed to the 16 percent increase in the "family" division during the period. Hence, Peppa's fans can rest assured that their favorite show will not be taken off the air soon.
