“Pure Genius” just started airing last month and news about its cancellation have started circulating online. And it looks like the rumors are partly true because CBS has chosen not to order more episodes of the series but it was not formally canceled. Theoretically, the show can still be renewed but mainly depends on the ratings of the remaining episode.
According to reports, the show is expected to air until its last episode which should be until December 15 in the same time slot. After that, it all depends on the network if they will consider extending the season or opt for a new season. But as of today, CBS has already announced that they are not ordering any additional episode for “Pure Genius”
“Pure Genius” opened with the lowest rating compared to all new series released by CBS this fall. It's actually the only series that didn’t get an additional order of episodes. All the other series, “Kevin Can Wait”, “MacGyver” and “Bull” received a 22-episode order while “Man with Plan” and “The Great Indoors” received 19 more episode orders. Probably one of the new series’ that performed well is “Code Black” which not only received 13 more episode order but also an additional 3 which makes it 16 all in all.
CBS has already announced that it will have new series coming in midseason namely, “Ransom”, “Doubt”, “Training Day” and “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” so they will need to make room for it.
“Pure Genius” is created by Jason Katims and is all about the life of a genius and billionaire man, James Bell, who wants to revolutionalize the healthcare system by building a Bunker Hill Hospital. He wants to treat the most challenging and the rarest medical conditions for free. He organizes a team of well-talented doctors to help him in his mission.
