In Pokemon Sun and Moon, wild creatures can call for help when in battle. Many trainers are actually annoyed by this feature, but it can be very helpful if you know how to use it. It can even get you a Shiny. Read on to find out how you can utilize this feature to your advantage.
First, let's discuss how this works. When you are in a battle with a wild Pokemon in both Sun and Moon, there is a chance that it calls for help, which would then have you fighting two monsters. It can call another one from a different species, but it is more likely to call from its own.
Farm Shiny/Rare Pokemon Easily
You can use the ally chaining method to easily farm Shiny Pokemon or rare ones. To do this, you must have the adrenaline orb that will usually prompt the Pokemon you are battling with to call for outside help. You can then KO one of the two then have the remaining one ask for help. Do this until you get your desired creature.
The longer the chain, the higher chance there is of a Shiny or Rare Pokemon appearing. This is a new method of farming as the Adrenaline Orb was first introduced in Pokemon Sun and Moon. Many have reported to have success with it, so it's worth a shot. Find out the other method of getting a Shiny here.
Find Hidden Abilities
Some Pokemon out there have Hidden Abilities. You can successfully catch one of these using the ally chaining method. Once you have established a quite lengthy chain, use an ability revealing move such as Skill Swap or Trace to see if the Pokemon you're facing is what you're looking for.
Same with Shinies, the longer the chain, the higher the chance of the appearing Pokemon to have a Hidden Ability. There is also another method of getting one, which brings us back to breeding as pointed out in the link above.
EV Training
Now that Horde Battles are out in Pokemon Sun and Moon, players have to settle with another way of gaining EV (Effort Value). Because a Pokemon that calls for help and the one that arrives are usually of the same species, you can farm certain points this way.
Furthermore, the summoned ally is worth twice the EV you would usually get, which makes ally chaining a truly effective method in EV training. You can even use Pokerus and Power items to maximize the chain.
Some Ally Chaining Tips
Before you start the chain, make sure that you are prepared first for a long battle. Stock up on Adrenaline Orbs as you would obviously need a lot. Don't also forget to grab some potions, elixirs, revives and ethers while you're at it.
Moreover, don't KO your opponent if you only have one. Some say that the rate increases the lower the HP of the remaining Pokemon, so you might want to be careful in dealing damage. You might also want to alternate on which one to KO.
