LG Optimus G Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2: Which Display Screen Is Better?

With the release of the Optimus G Pro, LG is hoping to directly take on the Galaxy Note 2, and put a significant dent in Samsung's domination of the "phablet" market.

Phablets are marked by their screen sizes, which are substantially larger than those seen on normal smartphones like the iPhone or the traditional Galaxy S line-up. Since screen size is arguably the main selling point for the devices, it's essential that the quality of the displays is top notch. LG wants you to know that the Optimus G Pro clearly outshines the Galaxy Note 2 from Samsung.

For one thing, there's the size of the screen itself. Huawei's Ascend Mate is still king with its 6-inch display, but the 5.5-inch screen on the Optimus G Pro and Galaxy Note 2 is still pretty hefty.

Of course, size is only part of the equation. The quality of the screen is just as important, if not more so. To help you make your decision, LG has released a video comparison, concluding, of course, that the Optimus G Pro's IPS panel display is better than an unnamed phone with an AMOLED screen, which just so happens to be the same screen in the Galaxy Note 2.

LG claims the IPS panel lets users have the perfect viewing angle regardless of their perspective, meaning no distortion or glare, while the Optimus G Pro's quick response time makes video viewing much clearer than the blurry mess they show happening on the AMOLED. It also suggests that the IPS panel makes browsing the Web more than 50 percent more energy efficient, while brightening the white background by 180 percent.

Now, the Optimus G Pro's screen may very well be better, but the representation of some of these claims is surely over the top. The Galaxy Note 2 still has a pretty nice display, but LG is on a mission to make a name for itself in the phablet arena, and it's looking to highlight its advantages any way it can. Samsung is hard at work on a rumored 5.9-inch Galaxy Note 3, but until then, LG is on the offensive.
