Moon Express may make it possible to travel to the moon in ten years. The private space travel company is going to charge as low as $10,000 for a trip to the moon.
This is the first private company which has been allowed by the US government to have the lunar travel. According to MoonEx, it may take as little as four hours to reach the moon from the earth. The American company appears to revolutionize space travel. Unlike other space travels, this company's travel plans include coming back to the earth. "We return," the company catch line says.
The US government made history by allowing MoonEx to travel beyond Earth's orbit and land on the Moon in 2017. It authorized a maiden flight of the company's robotic spacecraft onto the moon's surface. It starts a new era of commercial lunar exploration. It also opens up possibilities of exploring valuable resources on the moon.
"The sky is not the limit for Moon Express - it is the launchpad," Moon Express co-founder Naveen Jain says. "Space travel is our only path forward to ensure our survival and create a limitless future for our children."
According to the Tech Times, $10,000 happens to be extremely cheap compared to expenses typically related to space travel. Virgin Galactic charges $250,000 for one seat, so it is obvious that only the highly-privileged class can afford it. But, now that MoonEx charges $10,000, thousands of others will be able to fulfill the dream of space travel.
According to Jain, it will take around $25 billion initially for the company to travel to the moon. In 2017, it will cost around $7 million. Jain added that the cost would go down to millions in the coming years. That is why Moon Express is expected to take people to the moon for $10,000 in ten years.
