To many, finding toxic players in Overwatch is virtually common as it's something that has been so prevalent that's it's already considered as a norm. With the growing popularity of Overwatch and its population ballooning, you'll likely to find one or two toxic players in every game. A lot are already complaining about this issue and finally, Jeff Kaplan has officially confirmed that they're planning to address the issue by making a revamp to the current Reporting System.
Jeff Kaplan On Reporting System
In an official community thread, Jeff Kaplan announced the major revamp on the Reporting System which will impose a harsher punishment for offenders, particularly toxic players that constantly disrupts the communication between players. For months now, players are making an outcry for the revamp of the reporting system so much that they wanted the Avoid Player feature to come back. But it appears that the long wait is finally over as Kaplan is determined to make the changes go live as soon as possible, saying: "I wish this was moving faster but at least it is making active progress."
Aside from the revamp of the Reporting System, Kaplan also seeks to review all of the current policies in Overwatch including the respective punishments for each offense. This would mean that aside from actively punishing toxic players, the punishment would also be harsher depending on the degree of its offense - which makes us believe that they'll eventually incorporate some of the aspect to the reporting system in Dota 2.
Release Date and Possible Drawback
Despite the efforts of Blizzard to incorporate a harsher punishment to toxic plyaers, the main reason why it's taking some time to materialize is the fact that it can pave the way to abusers which can exploit the new system. Just like how people abused the Avoid Player feature which eventually led to its removal, one of the issues of the system's revamp is how Blizzard can effectively and accurately impose judgment to the offenders.
A player that may not be toxic but played badly in the game may be reported by the entire team if someone triggers the salty button. This is one of the case that's concurrent in the pubs of most prominent eSport titles.
Will Blizzard be successful in the new revamp of the Reporting System? Or will it just complicate the current state of Overwatch? Share your thoughts in the comments down below!
