A two-headed lamb was born on Monday March 11 near Tarkwa, Ghana.
According to MyJoyOnline, the lamb was born next to the spare parts and general goods dealer's shop Sackious Ventures. Reports indicate that the animal is healthy other than its cranial deformity. Those who live in the area claim they do not know the owner of the sheep who gave birth to the lamb.
One person very interested in the lamb is Todd Ray, who stars in the AMC TV series "Freakshow." According to Guinness World Records, Ray has the largest collection of two-headed animals in the world. This includes a two-headed goat, a two-headed chicken and two bearded dragons that have two heads and six legs. He shows his collection of animals at the Venice Beach Freakshow in Los Angeles. Though it is has not been confirmed if the two-headed lamb is still alive, Ray appears to be hoping so, commenting on the importance of monitoring the animal to see which head is dominant.
"People often try to feed both mouths," Ray told The Huffington Post, "but one may not have a functioning throat or it may have an obstruction. If one head seems more capable, feed that one because there's only one stomach."
It's also possible that the lamb may have difficulty standing, due to the weight of the two heads. Although the animal will gradually attain the necessary level of strength, Ray stressed the importance of keeping it standing for some time after it eats.
"If it lies down too soon, it could block air getting into the throat," he said.
The two-headed lamb is not the only strange creature to appear in the news lately. In late February a deformed pig-like carcass was found washed up on a beach in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Around that same time a picture of a giant sea lamprey found in a New Jersey river went viral on the internet.
