Apple Hit With Class-Action Lawsuit Over Retina MacBook Pro LG-Made Screens

Apple released the 15.4-inch Retina MacBook Pro last summer with some displays made by Samsung and others by LG. Complaints about the LG screens, which are known to burn-in or "ghost," have now culminated in a federal class action-lawsuit brought against the company by an unsatisfied customer.

The MacBook Pro user, Beau Hodges, filed the class-action lawsuit against the Cupertino company, arguing that it should have differentiated between the screens made by LG and Samsung, reports 9to5Mac.

According to Law360, Hodges seeks unspecified damages for Retina MacBook Pro customers nationwide, contending that Apple must have known "about the differences between the two versions because it spent a considerable amount of time testing the products during research and development and has been inundated with complaints from customers about the LG screen's problems," according to the suit.

On March 15, Apple did release a software update for the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro in an attempt to remedy issues with graphics, PowerNap and fans. The company hasn't issued a statement about the defects in the LG screens directly.

Many Retina MacBook Pro users have opted to replace their LG displays with Samsung-made screens.
