Is World Of Warcraft Lacking Caster Class?

Have you ever wondered why getting spell casters in your raid takes a bit of time? Well, when was the last time Blizzard created a caster class? It's surprising to see the disparity between casters and melee/range DPS as the latter clearly outnumbers the former. In Legion, the total number of classes has increased to 12 with Demon Hunter being another Melee/Tank DPS. For quite some time now, fans have been playing the game without noticing that there exists a lack of spell casters in the game. But despite having the melee/range DPS outnumbering the casters, is it really necessary for Blizzard to release another caster class?

World of Warcraft: Classes

Upon Wrath of The Lich King, Blizzard has released its fresh new class, the Death Knights. The DKs are Melee/Tank hybrid that can dish out spells to support their overall DPS. The Unholy in particular, uses shadow damage and an undead fiend to bolster its offensive capabilities, making the class highly versatile during combat. But overall, the class still fell off as a Melee/Tank DPS as they mainly rely on their weapons to deal astounding amount of damage.

When Mist of Pandaria was released, fans saw another class into the game, the Monk. This class utilizes Chi as their secondary resource but was later changed in Legion (Windwalkers still retain the stat). With the exemption to its Mistweaver spec, the Monk still fell into the Melee/Tank DPS class which adds to the pool of DPS classes in the game.

Now, here comes Legion, the expansion that's perceived to be of much success as Vanilla (although it's still currently being debated). In this latest expansion, Blizzard released the Demon Hunters, another Melee/Tank DPS hybrid that utilizes Fury as its main resource. The class definitely feels unique but then again, it fell into the pool of Melee DPS classes.

Now let's take things in retrospect, Wotlk was released 8 years ago and ever since then, Blizzard kept on releasing Melee/Tank DPS which means that we have been playing WoW for the past years now even realizing the lack of spell casters in the game.

One fan has shared his sentiments on Reddit but surprisingly enough; the community doesn't feel like there's a need for new spell caster class in the game. This leaves us wondering, is World of Warcraft really lacks caster class? Or are the five casters (balance druid included), already enough?

What do you think of the amount of caster class in the game? Do you think Blizzard needs to add a new one or are the handful of spell casters already enough?
