Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Update Available Now

The Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update was first pushed out to Nexus phones by Google back in February, but it's only now hitting Verizon's Galaxy Nexus.

Sure, a four-month wait for Android 4.2.2 isn't ideal, especially considering this is a Google-branded Nexus phone we're talking about here, but better late than never, right? In fact, many phones are just now getting Jelly Bean 4.1, so Galaxy Nexus fans might even feel a bit lucky.

In the past, some have claimed that the features seen in Jelly Bean 4.2.2 aren't even worth getting excited about, but nonetheless the upgrade is here and Galaxy Nexus fans should be receiving it soon, if they haven't already.

According to the Verizon Wireless News Center, the phone carrier is currently pushing out Android 4.2.2 to subscribers as we speak. If you haven't received it yet, it may take some time, so be sure to check back later.

One of the big new features of Jelly Bean 4.2.2 is Google's Photosphere, which enables users to capture 360-degree panoramic photos. Photos can be easily uploaded to Google+ and even Google Maps.

There's also Google's new Gesture Typing, which improves Android's word prediction capabilities.

"Just glide your finger over the letters you want to type, and lift after each word. You don't have to worry about spaces because they're added automatically for you," Google's Jelly Bean Web page reads. "The keyboard can anticipate and predict the next word, so you can finish entire sentences just by selecting suggested words. Power through your messages like never before."

Notifications have been expanded, too. Simply "swipe down from the top of the screen to see all your notifications in one place. Late for a meeting or missed a call? Take action in an instant directly from the notifications shade."

As always, there are other upgrades and stability enhancements as well.
