Though the public has generally been split when it comes to the 2016 MacBook pro, it still came as quite a shock when Consumer Reports marked the device as something the company would not recommend. The main reason for this was that the battery was not stable and fluctuated. Now, Apple is working with the company to resolve the issue.
As The Verge notes, the battery tests that Consumer Reports conducted yielded varying results each time. The 13 inch variant with Touch Bar was able to stay on for 16 hours during the first test, but this decreased to 4 hours later on. Meanwhile, the 15-inch model went from 18.5 hours to just 8 hours. CR then came to the conclusion that the public should stay away from the 2016 MacBook Pro until the issue is sorted out.
And that is exactly what Apple is now trying to do, in its partnership with Consumer Reports. The company's Senior Vice President Phil Schiller, as reported by C|Net, clarified that the tech giant will be working with CR in order to determine why the results varied greatly from each other. "Working with CR to understand their battery tests," the executive posted on Twitter. "Results do not match our extensive lab tests or field data."
Consumer Reports, however, is not the only party to point out the inconsistency of the 2016 MacBook Pro. when the device was released to the public, individuals publicly complained about the same issue. Apple released a statement saying that different people use the device differently and will undoubtedly reach varying results. But with Consumer Reports behind the disbelieving public, the Cupertino-based company had to act.
At this point, nothing more has been said by neither Apple nor Consumer Reports. It is likely that one of the parties will release a statement in the next few weeks, however, in order to explain the results or their plans. The new year might welcome an update from the tech giant that will fix the battery issue that is consistently found in the 2016 MacBook Pro.
