Footage From Cancelled 'The Flash' Game Surfaces Online

Though their movie universe has been biting Marvel's dust for a while, DC is still very prominent in games, with characters present in franchises like NetherRealm's Injustice Gods Among Us and Rocksteady's Arkham Asylum franchise. New footage has popped up of a canceled video game project for DC hero, The Flash, and it explores on what work went behind the project and why it fell apart.

The video was posted by YouTuber DidYouKnowGaming? and explains that the game was being developed by Smosh Entertainment and Bottle Rocket. The game was supposed to feature an open-world and players would get to control the Wally West version of the Flash - with Wally being the more prominent version of the character back in 2008.

The game also had a fighting mechanic similar to that of Bottle Rocket's The Mark of Kri that had different buttons corresponding to the various enemies in a location. The game was also supposed to have players explore two main cities in "The Flash" lore: Central City and Keystone City.

Players would have been able to have three different speeds throughout the game and they would gain extra points whenever they could achieve a nonstop run. The Flash wouldn't be able to vibrate through objects, but the developers made it so that if the Flash moved fast enough, he could break through certain barriers.

The plot was also supposed to focus on Wally West's early days as the Flash and he will be discovering his powers alongside the player in the game. Players will also be able to run into classic Flash villains like Reverse Flash, Captain Cold, and Gorilla Grodd.

Of course, the game was cancelled because the studios behind the project were shut down, but with the rising popularity of "The Flash" - having a TV show with The CW and an appearance in the upcoming "Justice League," - it is possible that someone could eventually pick up the game and bring it to current consoles. Maybe it could be Rocksteady's next project after Arkham?

Though the Flash may not be getting his own game anytime soon, players will see him return in NetherRealm's Injustice 2 which is set to come out next year.
