Overwatch reportedly topped the multiplayer games this year across all three platforms. In the meantime, Rocket League came in close while Gears of War 4 and Battlefield I have not made it to the Top 10. Additionally, the Overwatch developers already rolled out a Special update for Overwatch players with several in-game bonus items.
PC-Exclusive, Console Multiplayer Games Show Up In Top 10 List
First off, the war-torn world of Overwatch complete with soldiers, scientists and adventurers was noted as the top multiplayer game of the year. Coming in second is the cross between soccer and driving with the sequel to the arena classic game Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, the Rocket League. Coming in third was Grand Theft Auto Online filled with a street hustler, retired bank robber and a psychopath.
Completing the Top 5 was Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege and the PC-exclusive first-person shooter video game Unreal Tournament Platform by Epic Games. Other PC-exclusives that made it to the Top 10 were the 25th century worlds of Astroneer and the 4vs1 horror game Dead by Daylight. Completing the Top 10 list were the PC and Mac competitive action and strategy game DOTA 2 as well as Counter Strike: Global Offensive and the co-op cooking game Overcooked which was featured on PS4 and Xbox One as well. Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1 and Gears of War 4 were noted as runner-ups.
Blizzard Rolls Out Special Update To Prepare For Diablo Anniversary
In other news, Overwatch fans are slated to receive a special update treat from Blizzard in preparation for the anniversary of Diablo on Dec. 31, 2016. Several other games including Heroes of the Storm, Starcraft 2 and World of Warcraft are expected to feature in-game rewards as well. Overwatch is expected to receive in-game sprays representing various Diablo classes.
Overwatch is expected to feature a new player icon that was noted after the Lord of Terror. On another note, Hearthstone may hold the Tavern Brawl event with a secret hooded stranger.
