‘Final Fantasy VII' Remake And 'Dragon Quest XI' Are Most Wanted Video Games This Year

The previous year was an eventful year that packed a lot of anticipated video game releases. But it seems like this year is going to be better as a lot more highly awaited video game titles are expected to be released. With the New Year gliding in with a lot of surprises, various upcoming video games such as “Dragon Quest XI” and the “Final Fantasy VII” Remake have been dubbed as the most wanted video games in the first week of 2017.

A popular Japanese line of video game magazines had revealed recently the latest list of its most wanted and most anticipated video games that greeted the New Year. The list was made through a poll wherein votes were casted from Dec. 8 to Dec. 14. The top five spots of the said chart were nabbed by four popular upcoming video games.

Square Enix's "Dragon Quest XI"

“Dragon Quest XI” grabbed two places in the latest Famitsu chart, which was the first and fourth places, garnering a total of 1,595 votes. Developed by Square Enix, this single player role playing a video game is the eleventh entry to the mainline of the “Dragon Quest” series. It is bound to release sometime this year on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo Switch.

The exact release date of “Dragon Quest XI” has yet to be announced but the creator of the said video game series has already stated that they have already set on the story and is in the completion stage of the development of the game. The developer has already revealed the details of the story when it released a detailed trailer featuring the main characters and the open world.

Square Enix's "Final Fantasy VII" Remake

“Final Fantasy VII” Remake is no surprise as one of the most wanted video games, taking the second spot in the chart with 914 votes. Originally released in January 1997 by Square under the directorship of Yoshinori Kitase, the remake of “Final Fantasy VII” will be directed by Tetsuya Nomura, who was one of the character designers in the original version. The said video game will be released solely on PlayStation 4 so far and Square Enix has yet to make an announcement on when they are planning to release the game.

“Final Fantasy VII” will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and fans are hoping that a special announcement regarding updates on the game will be made soon. The remake will stick to the original story and characters but the development team had admitted that there will be some original content added and some minor adjustments to the original characters' design. “Final Fantasy VII” was probably the most successful in the early “Final Fantasy” installments.

Capcom's "Monster Hunter XX"

“Monster Hunter XX” takes third place with 588 votes and there is limited information regarding this upcoming video game. The said game was officially announced in October 2016 and will be an expansion of “Monster Hunter Generations”, which is also called “Monster Hunter X”. It is set to release in Japan in March 2017.

Capcom's "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard"

Lastly, “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard” takes the fifth top spot with 559 votes as its impending release approaches. Developed by Capcom, “Resident Evil 7” will be making a worldwide release on Jan. 24 and will be made available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows. Many fans are hoping that the official launch of “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard” will be bundled with a demo of the “Resident Evil 2” remake.
