For six months now, Pokémon GO has continued to be an iOS and Android device staple. Despite this augmented reality game's sinking number of active players through time across the globe, it remains to be the most popular mobile game in history, even cited by Google recently as the most searched term for the year 2016. Amid the growing popularity of Pokémon GO, The Pokémon Company president has revealed a few things how the game secured its success.
Popularity Through Generations
Tsunekazu Ishihara, The Pokémon Company president and Pokémon GO producer, called Pokémon GO's success as "Pokedemic" whose popularity shot up in a matter of a week. Accordingly, the primary weapon of the game that brought It to the top is the cross-generational success. Pokémon has been common since 1998 in the grey population. This carved the path which Pokémon GO is trailing at the moment.
Thanks To Social Media
While it took 18 years for Pokémon first started to make its name back then, Pokémon GO proves to be an instant phenomenon in a matter of a week, thanks to social media. Ishihara cited Facebook and Twitter as key factors in the spreading of the game across all borders. The marketing campaign for the game didn't actually do the job that much as Pokémon GO spread by the word of the mouth broadcasted on social media.
Niantic's Technical Prowess
Ishihara also commended Niantic, the co-developer of the game, for pulling off such a great feat with Pokémon GO. When the game was launched, trainers playing the game were 50 times the expected number and Niantic was able to handle the situation with grace in the midst of threats for the server to shut down anytime. The president likened it a crew fixing a plane's engine while on flight.
Advancement In Information Technology
Finally, Ishihara stressed out the advancement in information technology has contributed well to Pokémon GO's success. Particularly, the Global Position System is too advanced and accurate now that search businesses have shifted to location-based businesses.
