When T-Mobile announced that it would begin selling the iPhone 5 with full support to run on its new 4G LTE network, current unlocked iPhone 5 customers wondered if their iPhone 5 would be able to take advantage of T-Mobile's 4G LTE network. T-Mobile will be issuing a carrier update for all iPhones running iOS 6.1.x or higher on its network, and the update will give the smartphones new and important features.
Tmonews received a tip that details the new update:
"The T-Mobile Carrier Update is a minor iOS software update that enables official iPhone support by T-Mobile. When installed, the software update enables a handful of capabilities like Visual Voicemail, MMS Settings and Network/Device optimizations that customers do not have access to today. On April 5, the software update will begin being pushed via OTA to all iPhone devices on the T-Mobile network with iOS 6.1.x or higher."
T-Mobile will finally begin selling the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 beginning on April 12. It will also begin selling the smartphones with a down payment instead of the traditional subsidized price with a two-year contract. T-Mobile will be offering the iPhone 5 16GB for $99 down and an additional $20 per month for 24 months. The iPhone 4S starts at $69.99 down and $20 per month, while the iPhone 4 is $14.99 down and $15 per month for 24 months.
T-Mobile currently has around 2 million unlocked iPhone customers using its network; that number will surely increase once the carrier makes things official on April 12. It's great to see a carrier showing full support for unlocked devices, and it also helps that the device we're talking about is an iPhone.
