Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star Release

Being one of the most sought-after games in Japan, Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star is officially heading to the West as Marvelous is all set for its release in North America and Europe Tuesday, Jan. 17. The Musuo game is exclusively available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Hailed from the visual novel series Fate/Stay Night, the game franchise boasts a ton of enemies that players can engage in battle with. Despite the game's promising gameplay, Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star remains an underrated title for now. It will come with no surprise, however, if the game makes a name for itself in the West sooner or later.

Gameplay Mechanics

Mimicking the novel franchise and its predecessor Fate/Extra, the latest title picks up the events after the Holy Grail War wherein Master and Nero Claudius had been granted helm over the Moon Cell Automation computer. This device fulfills any wish one asks. The Regalia Ring puts defeated Servants under the wielders' wing. Wars will start brewing once new adversaries will rise up claiming that they have a Regalia Ring too.

Servants under one player's subservience can execute melee attacks against enemies to beat them down until gaining victory. Servants vary; they can be magic spell casters or swordsman. One of the lauded moves players can use when controlling servants is the Extella Maneuver which strikes down a bevy of opponents in one single blow.

Battle Classes, Party Affiliation

Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star has eight battle classes where all characters fall under. Players can choose among these according to the strength of the protagonist. The classes are Saber, Archer, Lancer, Caster, Assassin, Rider, Berserker and Ruler. Meanwhile, Servants are also affiliated to a specific affiliation, namely: Nero's Party, Tamamo no Mae's Party and Altera's Party; although Artoria Pendragon and Archimedes are independent characters.
