Though the biggest "Star Wars" game right now may be Star Wars Battlefront, there was news that a game centered on "Phantom Menace" Sith Lord, Darth Maul, was in the works before it eventually got canned. New concept art for the game has been leaked online, and it showcases all the different characters and designs that could have been part of the game should it not have been cancelled.
The game was supposed to be worked on by Red Fly and developer Dan Borth said in an old interview with Game Informer that this game was supposed to focus on the origins of Maul and how he came to be a Sith Lord. He said, "We wanted to show what he went through to become a Sith. Showcase the torture the Emperor put him through... Show how you as the player would have made the same mistakes and ended up a Sith."
Looking at the images, there are designs on what Maul would've looked like in the game, and it features the character with robotic legs. Fans who saw "The Phantom Menace" will remember that Maul was cut in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi in the final duel, but Maul just proved to be so popular that he was brought back in the "Clone Wars" animated series, making his survival canon in "Star Wars."
There are also different characters in the leaked art, like a race of tattooed people who are wielding purple lightsabers, as well concept for an Imperial officer wearing an early version of the uniform. A different design of stormtrooper has also been revealed, and it looks to transition between the phase 2 clonetrooper and the classic stormtrooper as seen in the original trilogy.
The good news is, even if the game was cancelled, it looks like the developers at Red Fly are still trying their best to get the game published, even adding more and more improvements to it as they go along. Hopefully EA, the holders of the "Star Wars" license, will give the Darth Maul game a chance and publish it for a lot of eager fans. It's not like Star Wars Battlefront is enough to keep all of the fans satisfied.
