The rumor mill on the next-generation iPhone started very soon after the launch of iPhone 5 in September 2012. Various rumors are flying thick and fast about the specifications, features and design of the purported iPhone 5S and now a few pictures have been leaked, which show that the smartphone will have a curved display.
GSM Arena claims that it has received a couple of pictures of what could be the next iPhone 5S. However, it also refuses to confirm if the pictures are legit.
"While the pictures aren't of the best quality or taken in studio conditions they do reveal a lot about the pictured smartphone. For one it sheds off the iconic home button and replaces it with a real edge-to-edge display (although we can't see the actual screen underneath)," reports GSM Arena.
The curved design of the iPhone 5S is not typical of the older variants of iPhone, as all previous versions of the iPhone have had a squarish design.
Apple has not confirmed if the next-generation iPhone will be called iPhone 5S. Previously, iPhone 3G was succeeded by the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4 gave way to iPhone 4S. So going with the previous naming convention, many market observers believe that the upcoming Apple smartphone will be called the iPhone 5S.
The leaked pictures do not point toward any specifications of the handset apart from the curved design. Speculations suggest that the iPhone 5S will sport a bigger display, a 13-megapixel camera, Near-Field Communication (NFC), wireless charging, probably a stylus, fingerprint reader and more. As usual, Apple has not revealed any information pertaining to the iPhone 5S.
For now we have to take the leaked pictures of the iPhone 5S with a pinch of salt and wait until Apple takes the wraps off the next-generation iPhone.
