Vaccine Safety: Studies Show Benefits Trump Risks

In light of President-elect Donald Trump's stand on vaccines, health experts gathered voluminous studies to make their professional advice on vaccine safety. Even though numerous studies have made the same clear conclusions---that vaccines are safe and effective---a significant portion of the population remain hesitant and even outrightly against the medical practice. Doctors have emphasized repeatedly the importance of vaccines, that it saves lives, but exactly how do they know this?

Vaccine safety has been on top of the priorities of the approving body before marketing it to the public. Additionally, with the surge of flu cases, meningitis, and stomach bug this season, vaccines are one thing that provides hope for protection of the public. According to scientists, there are more specific findings that present the risks and benefits of vaccines.

According to the Yahoo report, childhood vaccines have prevented more than 300 millions of kids from getting sick over the past two decades, based on a 2014 CDC study. Moreover, 90 percent of vaccine side effects are categorized as mild and not serious. Also, more than 20 rigorous scientific studies have clearly demonstrated that MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines have no link to autism.

The first study that claimed the link of autism and MMR vaccine have been discredited and retracted. Another study found that MMR can cause seizure triggered by fever in one of 3,000 to 4,000 children. However, in a 2011 review, the seizure never causes harm in the long run.

When it comes to public immunity, CDC states that vaccination helps protect those who are very old and very young, or those who have disorders that inhibits them from getting the vaccine, CNN says. Most common diseases such as polio, chicken pox, and HPV are now under control thanks to vaccines. There are more data that show vaccine safety, and experts all agree that at the end of the day, vaccines save more lives, and the risks involved are minimal.
