The very first 2014 Corvette Stingray went to NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick for a cool $1 million and now, Hendrick has purchased the first 2014 Corvette Stringray convertible. The price tag? $1 million.
Hendrick is well known for buying American racing cars at Barrett-Jackson auctions for amounts far exceeding any MSRP or sticker price. He purchased the first 2010 Camaro SS for $350,000 and the first 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition for $270,000, among others.
2014 Corvette Stringray Price: Actually
For us mere mortals, the 2014 Corvette Stingray price tag should start at around $49,600 when the car begins shipping to dealerships near you sometime in Q3 2013. The 2014 Corvette Stingray convertible price tag is still unknown.
All of the money from the Barrett-Jackson auction will go to the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. Hendrick has now spent a grand total of $2.1 million on 2014 Corvette Stingrays.
"I paid a little more than I wanted for that car," Hendrick told Fox. "But I owe so much to Corvette for getting me into the car business in the first place ... Corvettes are a passion of mine. I love those cars so much, and to have the first Corvettes from the new generation means so much to me."
In addition to owning the American NASCAR team, Hendrick is considered to be one most successful Chevrolet dealers in the world. Hendrick Automotive Group has 80 franchise locations with 6,000 employees in 10 different states. In 2009, the company's reported revenue was in excess of $3.5 billion.
So he can probably afford a 2014 Corvette Stringray or two with a slightly inflated price tag.
