Blizzard is currently making some changes to the Overwatch hero Bastion for future patches. Will these changes be as dramatic as the Symmetra rehaul?
One of Blizzard's main assets in their first-person shooter is the diversity among heroes. There are currently 23 heroes with their own set of skills and playstyles which make the game open to a variety of gamers. In spite of this, some heroes have been neglected more than others with the robot, Bastion, being one of them, as per PC Gamer.
Blizzard Tweaking the Overwatch Omnic
This omnic falls under the defense class and can easily shred opponents with its minigun at the cost of its own mobility. While its entry mode boasts a large amount of firepower, other heroes can easily counter and shut down the robot. Because of this, Bastion is almost nonexistent when it comes to the competitive scene.
Unlike other heroes, the character has yet to receive any special treatment in terms of buffs or major changes. However, it seems like things might change soon as the game's principal designer, Geoff Goodman, has addressed the issue in the official forum. The designer claimed that he is currently working on several changes for the omnic hero via internal testing.
Despite this, Goodman could not give an estimated time arrival to when they will release these tweaks. Furthermore, has had not mentioned if the changes were just simple buffs like Sombra's hack speed or an overall rework of the character like Symmetra. For now, it seems like players will have to wait for further news regarding Bastion's changes.
Three Factors Affecting Character Changes
On a different note, GameSpot reports that director Jeff Kaplan explained the various factors that affect whether the team should change a character. He claimed that the three most important things are general feedback, statistics and Blizzard's personal instincts as 'players and designers.'
As an example, Kaplan stated that Symmetra was doing well according to statistics but the team's instincts and the player base believed otherwise. For this reason, they made the changes based on those two factors and not from the game data. With this in mind, it seems extremely fitting that Blizzard would tweak the Overwatch omnic sooner or later.
