Modern gamers have always been divided based on the platform of their choice, be it Xbox One, PC or PS4. Gears of War 4, however, seems to be taking a step-forward when it comes to cross-platform gaming, and it looks like Microsoft will be making cross-play available for more of its games in the future.
Cross-Play Moving Forward
Polygon reports that the decision to add cross-play to Gears of War 4 could be Microsoft's means of testing the waters when it comes to cross-platform gaming. This was "planned to be a permanent move" when it comes to Social Quickplay, and the feedback from players about the game mode will affect the company's decision to add more games into its cross-platform roster.
As of now, Gears of War 4 joins Rocket League and Killer Instinct in the cross-play supporting party. Who knows, probably in the future, gamers will be looking to compete cross-platform with games like Overwatch or Tekken - anything to bring the gaming community closer together.
Cross-Play In Gears of War 4
According to the official Xbox site, the decision to put cross-play in Gears of War 4 was made after testing out 750,000 matches that had participants from Xbox and Windows 10 playing together at the same time. 115,000 players had come up to participate in the matches, and the scores were said to have average KD results that were so close that they have decided to include cross-play in the game.
The catch is, cross-play will still not be available for Core and Competitive playlists. For a while, PC gamers have always considered it to be unfair to play against others who use a controller during shooter games since using a mouse allows for more precise control when aiming during matches. Even if the Average KD was said to be close during the testing phases, the developers still want "to ensure our Ranked experiences are as closely matched and competitive as possible."
Gears of War 4 is currently available for Xbox One and PC.
