Some great news is ahead for gamers looking forward to Sony's PS4, as the company has announced — somewhat indirectly — that the forthcoming console won't break your bank.
Apparently, the company has learned its lesson from the relatively expensive PS3 and now wants to release the PS4 as a console whose price point will appeal to gamers "in the broadest sense."
"I guess the first thing to say is that we listen and learn and take the judgement from every console launch we ever have and we have to be informed by what the strengths of our PlayStation 3 system have been, but also the challenges of that," Sony Worldwide Studios Vice President Michael Denny told Edge on Monday, April 15.
Denny, of course, wouldn't release any specific pricing information about the forthcoming PS4, which is said to be launching this upcoming holiday season.
"The initial announcement phase that we're in now is just to explain the vision to everybody. Part of that vision is we have created a console absolutely focused on gamers — and we want that to be gamers in the broadest sense as well," Denny said. "I think to some extent I can ask you to draw your own conclusions."
We can only assume that "our own conclusions" means that a "broader" gaming base means more people will be able to afford the PS4. And this is great news for everyone.
More great news comes in the form of further events and reveals of the PS4 that Sony has also announced will be taking place throughout the rest of the year.
In the same extensive interview with Denny, Edge discovered that the announcement of the PS4 earlier this year was but one of many forthcoming happenings surrounding the console that we'll be seeing in 2013 until the product hits stores.
"... it's more important for us at that announce event — which is the first of what I'm sure you'll understand will be a number of events this year explaining what PlayStation 4 is — to explain what's inside the box rather than reveal the box itself," Denny told Edge.
Once again being somewhat indirect, Denny suggested that though much of the PS4 hasn't been seen yet — aside from the controller, some social media features and other peripherals — we can expect some closer reveals soon.
"... we all love the look of these devices and it's very important, but yeah — that is for another day," Denny said.
We've clearly got some enlightening events ahead when it comes to all things PS4, and with the allegedly more affordable price, that's something to cheer about as we close in on the end of 2013.
