One of the series regulars of "Grey's Anatomy" is reportedly leaving the show as the current season comes to end. Actress Jerrika Hinton, who plays Dr. Stephanie Edwards, is not coming back to reprise her role once the series receives a possible renewal. Reports reveal that Edwards has been cast in a new drama for HBO, which makes it impossible for her to keep her role in "Grey's Anatomy."
The exit of Hinton has been swirling since HBO reportedly casts her for a new TV show alongside "Fear the Walking Dead's" Daniel Zovatto "Scream's" Sosie Bacon. TVLine has recently confirmed the speculations about Hinton's participation in Alan Ball's new project. However, this is not the first time that the actress has been reported to flee "Grey's Anatomy." It can be recalled that she has also been cast in Shondaland's comedy pilot, "Toast," in 2016 which has set her reduced role in the ABC drama.
Hinton has been playing the role of Dr. Edwards since 2012. ABC has not yet given any statements regarding Hinton's rumored departure, but some fans are speculating that she might be back as a guest star. Hinton leaving the show follows the recent departure of another regular, Sara Ramirez, who left her role after season 12.
Meanwhile, talks are rife that a possible season 14 will have the cast returning to the Seattle Grace Hospital. A recent fan theory has also surfaced, which recently created a frenzy as it shed a heartbreaking light on the series. The theory speculates that the series could end with the revelation that Dr. Meredith Grey has an Alzheimer's disease. This follows the events in season 3 where Meredith tested positive for the disease which then caused her mother's death.
"Grey's Anatomy" has not been officially renewed yet for a new season, but fans are expecting that the announcement will be dropped anytime soon. The ratings of the show are believed to be a good reason for the series to have a solid future. "Grey's Anatomy" season 13 is currently airing on ABC at 8 p.m. on Thursdays.
