This year, Apple will celebrate iPhone's 10th year anniversary. And according to rumors, Apple may release a new iPhone that will be called as iPhone X and not an iPhone 8. The "X" on the name iPhone X will symbolize the celebration of the anniversary since X in Roman Numerals is equal to 10.
Yes To Apple iPhone X This Year
The expectations for Apple’s next smartphone are very high because the company turned in a superb record quarter this week, selling more iPhones than ever in the history. Apple has been continuously following the same naming protocols ever since its iPhone 4. Since, according to TechTimes, Apple is naming the next smartphone as iPhone X, it will be a huge departure from the company to decide the name of the iPhone 7's successor.
One of the many probable reasons why Apple may decide to change the naming protocol of the next-gen iPhone is for the company to stay ahead of its rival Samsung. Also, instead of the two-year naming cycle, Apple is reportedly aiming a three-year period to launch its phones and working on this by logic, when Apple launches its next iPhone, Samsung will be launching its Galaxy S9 and Note 9. Hence, if Apple decides to use the nameiPhone 8, it will fall behind its rival Samsung in the numbers game.
What To Expect With Apple iPhone X
As reported by Fox News, the centerpiece of the future smartphone will likely be an organic light-emitting diode or mostly known as OLED display. Raymond Soneira, Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Princeton University, said that iPhone's OLED hardware display will surely be very similar to the OLED displays on Galaxy Note7 and particularly the upcoming Galaxy S8. Now, the challenge for Apple's new iPhone is that the switch to an OLED display is fraught with a mixture of complexity.
Soneira also offers some thoughts about what the future OLED iPhone might look like as well its capabilities. “With a curved screen OLED, the iPhone display will almost certainly be bezel and border free to the outside edges, and fill all or almost all of the entire front view edge-to-edge,” he said. Soneira also said that the rumors on iPhone's home button, fingerprint sensor, ambient light plus proximity sensors will be incorporated into the display.
