Six months ago in Yemen, an elite squad of U.S. Army Rangers, led by Sergeant Eric Carter (played by Corey Hawkins), killed a guerrilla leader Sheik Ibrahim Bin-Khalid. And the outcome, Bin-Khalid's followers avowed a fatwah against Carter, his squad, and their families, driving them into federal witness protection.

But some recent attempts on Carter's life made it clear to him that his team is now exposed. To spoil further attacks, Carter enlists Rebecca Ingram (play by Miranda Otto), who back-up the raid that killed Bin-Khalid.

She's a brilliant and go-getting intelligence officer who has stepped down from her post as National Director of CTU to support her husband, Senator John Donovan (acted by Jimmy Smits), in his effort for the United States presidency.

Decades of wakeful nights and missed important celebrations landed her at the top. With the White House within their grasp, can she truly grasp a new role as First Lady? Or will her love of the achievement draw her back in?

Composed, in this fast-paced thrill ride, Carter and Ingram expose a sophisticated terrorist group that will force them to ask: "Who can we trust now?" As they battle Bin-Khalid's aficionados, they are forced to oppose their own identities, families, and the past.

The season is now underway, fans of the old "24 - Jack Bauer" will see at least one acquainted face. Former CTU agent Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard), who choose the bad side and started working with terrorists, is scheduled to return later in the season. If the new series do well, Coto and Katz said there's a big leeway to Chloe O'Brian, the unpredictable tech whiz played by Mary Lynn Rajskub, might make a comeback also by next season.

And then there's Jack Bauer, last seen in the guardianship of Russian agents on "24: Live Another Day." "In our minds, Jack is still in Russia, and we sure as heck want to get him out of there," said Coto. "There's nothing we'd like more than to link these two worlds and these two shows."
