Pokemon Red And Blue News: Recent Hacks Able To Corrupt Opponent Files, Bring Cosmog Back To N64 Pokemon Stadium

Before the emergence and rise to popularity of the Pokemon Sun and Moon, the Pokemon Red and Blue was the ultimate hit among players, especially those with Gameboy consoles. Despite being in the market for over a decade, the RPG still doesn't fall short from its successors when it comes to Pokemon fanatics.

They, however, acknowledge that the Red and Blue version comes with several glitches. Too many that even players find a way to manipulate in-game settings to their advantage using an arbitrary code execution (ACE). Corrupting saved files of their opponents are made possible, within just a few clicks and flicks of a button. This has been a well-known tactic among hardcore gamers, who named it the "Cooltrainer" glitch.

According to Kotaku, it is usually done with a Pokemon with three or less moves. Players trick the game into believing the blank move was the first one in Pokemon's move list. In turn, this makes the file corrupt. Bulbapedia reckons that this can be destructive to a certain extent.

One Youtuber, Crystal_, even demonstrated using this exploit on a link battle. For those unaware, in Gameboy consoles, the opponent's data is actually a copy of the player's. So, whatever a player does to his Pokemon data can directly affect another's. In this case, she uses an ACE to get the opponent's game to delete their own file. If not executed correctly, there's also a huge possibility that the player can erase his or her own memory.

This is not the first time that people have been playing around with ACE. Lately, Pokemon players have been using sneaky game tactics. Just last month, a player, Mr. Cheeze was able to bring Cosmog back in the N64 game, the Pokemon stadium.

Although they've only been able to crack Pokemon games in Game Boy, GBA, N64, NES and SNES, it makes many wonder, if they could do that then, could they still manipulate newer versions of Pokemon, like the Sun and Moon? How far will they go to make them the best Pokemon trainer in the world?
